Any thoughts about Yzerman being at Jets games to scout Trouba?

Could be a winger or a dman or both. Yzerman is a warlock of trades.

Sustr is on his way out and could be a throw-in on a deal. The recent goalie swap with Arizona removed a contract from the books. So, there is already one spot open in theory and the Lightning do have a little wiggle room under the cap.

Yzerman attending the Jets game to scout Trouba is a good assumption. We all know this team is looking to sure up their blueline and Trouba has been a member of the good ol' rumor mill for quite some time. I'm not 100% sold on the Bolts actually pursuing Trouba though. Not sure if Yzerman views him as someone they can lock up long term and still take care of the other contracts they will need to dish out in the future.

The cost would be extravagant to get Trouba but at the same time would make our defense complete (I'd say team but I still feel like we need an answer for a winger to skate with Johnson and sure up our 3rd line!) Cap wise this year it wouldn't be a problem because Trouba is making less than 3.

Very interesting breakdown. I also have been playing GM. My estimated contracts are different. I have lighter cap hits for Point, Vlad and Kuch. I use to shoot high on salaries but Yzerman always gets them to sign for lower so I try to be more "realistic" and adjust for the "Yzerman factor." Plus Kucherov and his agent said they will not break the bank on his next contract so I believe that means Kuch's contract will be around Stamkos's out of respect for the captain even though he will deserve the 11 million you gave him. (I'm praying I'm right)

I also have the cap at 80 million but that's nothing major. (I've read speculation that the cap might increase to 80 million NEXT year...).

I see Gourde getting replaced by our depth.

I pray Yzerman doesn't give a 33 year old Stralman a 5 year contract!

Bottom line: I estimate that Yzerman will get the 3 RFA fwds to sign team friendly deals. I believe after next season Callahan will be gone either by buy out or trade. I don't see us being able to afford Trouba and his likely high contract demands. If Trouba is brought in, it will be to help us win this year and then flipped to a team who wants his RFA status. Yzerman doesn't like one year rentals...so although I wouldn't mind sacrificing our abundance of prospect wealth for a one year rental. I don't see Yzerman pulling the trigger.
